Open Position: Stanford University Senior Lecturer in Costume Design

The Department of Theater and Performance Studies at Stanford University is seeking applicants for a full-time Senior Lecturer in Costume Design, with an appointment to begin September 1, 2019. This position involves the following responsibilities:

Teaching: Three undergraduate classes per year in costume design and other related areas as needed, as well as supervision and mentoring of student designers.

Design: Costume design for three main stage productions (dance and theater) over the academic year. Costume designs include research, design presentation, and realization of costume production, in a range of periods and styles. (The ratio between the number of classes and productions may vary).

Service: This position will require service on the Theater and Performance Studies (TAPS) Production Committee. Also, the senior lecturer in this position is expected to coordinate design curriculum and work closely with other design faculty, and to collaborate with the costume shop manager on construction and management of the costume shop as needed.

Required Qualifications: MFA in costume design or allied field; professional costume design experience; excellent teaching, mentoring, and communication skills. Experience in shop management, costume construction, draping, pattern making, and millinery.

A successful candidate for this position will have ability to understand and appreciate the mission of a theater department in a liberal arts university and to work closely with faculty, staff, students, and visiting artists. Ideal candidates will have experience in multiple design areas and mediums.
